    Some of the most common questions asked by our clients and prospective customers regarding the GlycoTech WaxSol product.

    1. CAN I PAINT OVER WAXSOL?

    Glycotech WaxSol is a Polyurethane sealer allowing most varnish and PVA products to be used as top coating.

    Once Glycotech WaxSol is dry wipe with dry cloth before applying a top coating.

    2. CAN I APPLY GLYCOTECH WAXSOL TO A VARNISHED SURFACE?

    Yes use a thin coat with a sponge or cloth. Note: It will penetrate over a few days without effecting the varnish. Repeat until the wood is nourished.

    3. HOW DO YOU CLEAN WAXSOL?

    Once the Glycotech WaxSol is applied to a surface it may be removed with high pressure water washer or water and brush. A sugar soap solution can also be used to thoroughly clean.

    4. WHAT IS WAXSOL USED FOR?

    Glycotech WaxSol with a 1.050 S.G. (Specific Gravity) is a Emulsifiable Polyurethane damp sealer for cement, plaster and wood. Displacing moisture.

    Used on environmentally challenged wood as maintenance protection against: fungi, insects, damp, water, sun and temperature. However, in the long run every maintenance application penetrating ever deeper into the cellular structure of the ageing and drying wood ensuring flexibility and strength.

    5. WHAT IS THE BEST WATERPROOFING FOR WOOD?

    Treatments which displace moisture and replace the moisture with cellulose bonding oil. GlycoTech WaxSol is just such an treatment.

    6. HOW LONG DOES WAXSOL TAKE TO DRY?

    Glycotech WaxSol is an oil therefore its application requires it to penetrate the wood. The drying time at 28ºC will be 3 hours when applied to Pine with slower penetration applied to Hardwood and a Varnished surface before being dry to the touch. Within 2 to 3 days a protective film is formed on the surface. When maintenance is preformed the new coat will penetrate through the protective layer.

    7. WHAT IS WAXSOL MADE FROM?

    Glycotech Emulsifiable Polyurethane base oil is a blend containing Polyurethane oil, resins, wax oil and trace elements sufficient to ensure the best possible treatment being safe for man and animal and is an environmentally friendly green product.

    8. IS WAXSOL TOXIC?

    Is wood treated with Glycotech WaxSol toxic? No.
    When handling liquid Glycotech Waxsol Daily Occupational health and safety guidelines, measures and personal protective equipment must be adhered according to site specific risk analysis.

    Glycotech WaxSol being a Polyurethane is a unique synthetic substance but one of many in the classification.

    Glycotech WaxSol specifically engineered it's Polyol as an organic compound for the treatment of wood.
    Please adhere to the manufacturer’s directions of use as safe contact and leech tests support the manufacturer's recommended instructions.

    9. HOW DO YOU WATERPROOF WOOD NATURALLY?

    Use Olive, Coconut, Palm, Linseed oil, all of which contain a percentage of Polyol and blend in a low melting point Bee's wax to form a surface seal should do.

    10. WHY DOES EXTERIOR WOOD NEED TREATMENT?

    Fungus feeds on moist wood.
    Dry wood cracks, twists and breaks.
    Our environment is designed to reclaim neglected wood but also to bless well treated wood with durability, strength, worth and beauty.

    11. CAN GLYCOTECH WAXSOL BE USED FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS?

    GlycoTech supplies an industrial grade flame retardant WaxSol for HOT DIP and flame treating surfaces. Please email us for more details to info@glycotech.co.za

    12. CAN GLYCOTECH WAXSOL CAN BE SPRAYED WITH LOW PRESSURE SPRAY GUNS OR BACK-PACK?

    Yes - this is mainly for industrial applications and a pre-filter is required.

    Tips: Inspect the wood the dryer the better, also take note of the wood and ambient temperature.

    Recommended to use a small 350 watt centrifugal pump connected to a big blue water filter with 10 micron replaceable filter.

    GlycoTech WaxSol is factory filtered at 40 microns.

    13. CAN GLYCOTECH WAXSOL BE USED FOR HOT DIPPING?

    No - for HotDIP Applications a different product in our range called GlycoTech HotDIP needs to be purchased.

    DO NOT HEAT our GlycoTech WaxSol product!

    Poles, timber and wood can be hot dipped using GlycoTech HotDIP ONLY! We will be introducing a GlycoTech HotDip Timber Treatment product soon. Please enquire via email: info@glycotech.co.za

    • Heat between 1000C and 1200C - heat at maximum 5 to 7 watt per centimetre square area.
    • Less equipment cost
    • Less labour
    • Less time consuming
    • Equal to the standard current pressure treatment method
    • Remove loose material
    • Timber should not be excessively wet
    • Submerge components in heated oil
    • GlycoTech HotDIP may also be applied with a coarse bristle brush as a cold application - penetration however will not be as effective as when heated.
    • Untreated timber should be treated with two (2) coats leaving approximately four (4) hours between coats at 280C
    • A maintenance coat should be applied every twelve (12) months, or upon inspection.
    • Clean equipment with mineral turpentine

    14. CAN GLYCOTECH WAXSOL BE USED FOR FURNITURE?

    • GlycoTech WaxSol is NOT recommended for furniture or food preparation surfaces, and as such, our packaging or information does not make reference to use on furniture.
    • GlycoTech WaxSol is a wood oil treatment, not paint or varnish. However, after drying, a varnish coat may be added for contact use.
